Inspirational Bible Verses: "You Shall Be Clean..."

This Inspirational Bible verse from the Hebrew Bible, in the book of Ezekiel, comes as a promise in the face of Israel's unfaithfulness. Despite chastisement that will come to correct them, God then reveals that...

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from fall your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Ezekiel 36:25-27

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from fall your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.

The notion of water and cleasning is a powerful symbol to Jews and Christians alike...in a word it represents being made fit for God. Washed again, pure again, holy again, new again. You might want to take a moment and see what your heart sees with these powerful images....

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Ezekiel 36:25-27

This washing is more than a temporary cleansing. It is a transformative power, accomplished by the Spirit, to actually change our inner being. God takes out our hard, rebellious hearts that tend toward independance and replaces them with soft, warm, willing hearts ready again to relate to Christ, to obey Him.

Following Jesus is not then just cleaning the outside of the cup. It's about seeking the transformation that only He can give by the power of His Spirit. If you've been trying hard to obey, stop. Start with trusting in what God will do, ("cause you to walk in my statutes...") and stop trusting in your own ability. Interesting how pride dresses up as religion many times...and how humility enables obedience...
