Inspirational Bible Verses: "The Lord is My Rock and My Fortress..."

From our inspirational Bible verses, this verse contains a key strategy to dealing with depression...

Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him
For the help of His presence. Psalm 42:5

Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?

This may sound a bit quacky, but it's true...David often talked to himself in the Psalms, and this is one of those places. He dealt with His self...there are times and places where we need to tell a part of ourself that is not coming into alignment with God to step into line to stop being divided...but before you do this, make sure you understand this vital truth...

Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him
For the help of His presence.

We never deal with the self apart from the presence of God...you must examine yourself in the light of God's eye upon you, else you might become sucked into the vortex of self-examination, a hell you don't want to be in. One writer calls this the disease of introspection and it is aptly named. You must always be looking up and out to God, aware of His real presence with you, which is the real help as this verse says.

We live in an age of disintegration, people so spilt that they don't even know their real selves, and calls for "examining one's self" before taking communion can actually encourage this, including "beating one's self up" which is heartbreakingly common among Christians today.

Look up and out to the real presence of Christ in you today, and call the self to the Father's will...
