Inspirational Bible Verses: "The Lord Himself Will Descend From Heaven with a Shout..."

Among inspirational Bible verses this an encouraging funeral Bible verse. But that is not all! It is one of the keystones of our faith that the King will return to set up His kingdom in full

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-19

Many people assume this verse is talking about 'the rapture.' When read in its historical context, it may not be. Let me explain.

In the Roman world, when a Caesar would come to a city, it was a great honor. Trumpets would announce his arrival, and at that call, the citizens of the city would go out to meet him, and then escort Him into the city. Very interesting, yes?

Perhaps what we've always called the rapture in this verse is actually how we will welcome Jesus to this earth to rule and reign forever. Perhaps heaven, rather than being 'out there somewhere' will really be a place on earth. (See Revelation 21 and 22)

But the Lord' return is not made for debates, but rather encouragement. This world is not the only, there is the world to come, a place of reunification, with family and friends, a place of no more tears, pain or sin, when Messiah sits on the throne!
