Inspirational Bible Verses: "The Lord is My Rock and My Fortress..."

From our inspirational Bible verses, this is chock-full of images that are sure to relate to your heart.

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.
The cords of death encompassed me,
And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me.
The cords of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice out of His temple,
And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
Psalm 18:2-6

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;

A fortress of rock...solidity, saftey, security. Ask the Lord to bring a picture of this for your life.

My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

More images of protection. 'Horn' represents kingship and leadership, stronghold represents much of what is going on in the initial images.

I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.

'Calling on the Lord' resulting in a saving act by God is a concept familiar to both the Old and New Testaments. God breaks in, bringning healing, wholeness, joy.

The cords of death encompassed me,
And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me.
The cords of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.

A very Hebraic way of saying things...repeating the same concept multiple times for effect. This man is in trouble!

In my distress I called upon the LORD,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice out of His temple,
And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.

God heard the Israelites when they cried out in the bondage of an impossible situation...slavery in Egypt. Studying Nehemiah 9 this week, our church family learned that God's steadfast covenant love (hesed) showed that each time they cried out in the midst of an impossible situation, even with after time and time unfaithfulnes on their part, God always responded to a genuine, repentant cry from His people, broke in, and restored His people.
