The "law" has gotten a bad rap.
The Hebrew word law literally means "direction" or teaching.
In fact, the Jews never really viewed the law as a means of salvation. They realized that they were delivered by grace from the bonds of Egypt. Nothing they had done, save cry out to God, had delivered them.
God's law was a gift of grace to instruct them on how to walk in loving relationship with Him now that they were "saved."
We ought to view Jesus' exposition of the law in the same way. Loving guidance on how to walk with Him. We will then find it is the path to freedom we have been longing for, putting our feet on solid, smooth ground so that you will not stumble.
