Encouraging Bible Verses: You Shall Prosper
This encouraging Bible verse locks in the promise for a successful life: a mind and heart and walk soaked in the scriptures. The result: You shall prosper in all that you do.
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."
(Psalms 1.1-3 ESV)
Commentary on this Encouraging Bible Verse
There is a very Hebraic progression in this encouraging Bible verse..."walks not...nor stands..nor sits..." This progression increases in intimacy and intensity to delineate the path that the successful man refuses to walk in.
Law, the Hebrew word torah, derives from the root yarah, meaning to aim or guide. By occupying the mind with this guidance for living, this man's life takes on the picture of a fertile tree.
This fertile tree has abundant water that enables it to produce copious amounts of fruit and healthy foliage. In short, it never faces a dry season.
When you soak in the the Law of the Lord, when you make it a continual living stream into your life, God's guidance will produce in your life a rich harvest, and you will prosper in all that you do.
There is a strong link in this encouraging Bible verse between study and obedience. In fact, in the Biblical world, there was not quite the division that we have between study and obedience.
For example, the word hear carried with it the connotation of obedience. ("Hear O Israel, the Lord is God...)If you really heard it, you obeyed it. If you didn't obey, it was questionable if you ever really heard.
Make it a practice in your life to to plant yourself in the word of God in a deep and rich way--making little distinction between study and obedience. Worship is a way of life--not something that happens in a church building.
The result will be rich and full life in the presence of the Lord that not only gives you health--but gives nourishment to others.
